Personal Training with KAL

lee personal trainingKAL now has personal trainers in eight of its centres to benefit even more customers.

Personal training is no longer the preserve of celebrities and footballers wives, but they are here to help you reach your goals.

The professionally qualified trainers are available for both members and public, although they would need to pay for gym usage as well as the PT session.

Fitness manager Kelly Potts said: "Personal trainers look at your whole lifestyle, they are not just about taking you through your paces in the gym.

"They help you with nutritional advice, keeping more active outside the gym, sleep patterns and healthy habits, such as reducing your alcohol intake.

"Although all gym users have instructors and programmes to follow, you will work harder with a personal trainer. You feel more confident knowing you are doing the exercises correctly and more effectively. Also a personal trainer can see any problems arising, for instance if you are working one side of your body more than the other, and take steps to address that."

Most people have at least six weekly hour-long sessions, but some use one each time they train several times per week. You can train on your own or why not have group training with a friend or group of friends to spread the cost.

Kelly added: "Everyone goes to the gym or exercises for a reason and they don't always achieve what they wanted to, if they have a personal trainer, they are guaranteed results."

Personal training is now available in:

  • Huddersfield Sports Centre
  • Spenborough Pool & Fitness Complex
  • Batley Sports & Tennis Centre
  • Dewsbury Sports Centre
  • Stadium Health & Fitness Complex
  • Colne Valley Leisure Centre
  • Scissett Baths & Fitness Centre
  • Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre

Many people begin with a personal trainer to achieve a specific goal, examples include:

new mums wishing to get their pre-pregnancy body back
preparing for a wedding or big event or party
taking part in marathons or other challenges
recovering from a recent illness, operation or injury.

"I've worked with a diverse population from pre-adolescents upwards and I'm passionate about working with people not only to improve their fitness but also more rewardingly to see them gain self confidence from achieving their goals.

Kirt at Huddersfield Sports Centre.

Kirt has competed in natural bodybuilding to lead by example and show what can be achieved by hard work and dedication.

"I have personally lost over 17KG of fat and gained a few pounds of muscle at the same time in a period of 6 months. I competed in natural bodybuilding to inspire others to achieve their goals.

"I have been featured on websites and I have been on The Active Channel. Everything I ask my clients to do is something I have done myself, I use myself as a guinea pig to find out what works the best, how to blaze away the fat in record time, how to build muscle even if you are a "hardgainer".

"When you combine my training methods with a suitable diet, I will guarantee results. I've never failed and I will always help my clients achieve their goals."

Lee Burdon at Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre.

Lee has worked at various sites for KAL for 6 years. He is qualified in specialist areas such as level 4 back pain, pre and post natal and GP referral, as well as having various class qualifications.

"I have had a passion for health and fitness ever since I was a kid playing ice hockey and inline roller hockey and as I got older I fell in love with the gym as well. Every day I see people training using the same routines, boring exercises and failing to achieve their goals. I want to be the one to change this, to pass on my passion for exercise and to make people want to come to the gym.

"To accomplish this, I use a variety of equipment that isn't available in the gym, such as Powerbags and the Fit Kit Pro suspension system. These are excellent for boosting your functional strength, core stability and weight loss. I am also looking forward to adding the Vipr and kettlebells to my repertoire.

"I work my clients hard and push them to achieve their potential. But its not all high intensity training, I also work with clients that have injuries or medical conditions and have helped people to manage their back pain and recover from knee and hip replacements.

"I still enjoy playing inline roller hockey and I am a qualified coach as well. Along with a friend, I set up a club called the Cleckheaton Comets. I was voted to be the head coach of the club, but I will now be taking on the role of chairman instead."

Heather at the Stadium Pool & Fitness Complex.

I am a 43 year old mother of 3 and qualified personal trainer. Prior to having a career break to bring up my children I worked as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist rehabilitating people post hip, knee, shoulder and back injury. I have been a keen runner for the last 25yrs completing the Great North Run several times and I enjoy swimming, hill walking and skiing, whilst ensuring that I remain strong via a toning and strengthening programme. I am an advocate of healthy living via exercise and healthy eating.

Whilst I am no longer able to offer physiotherapy treatment I come with a wealth of experience in joint and back care. I am passionate about getting the most out of exercise by ensuring what is done is done really well with skill and confidence. Body awareness skills learnt with me will be carried over into everyday life. I can improve posture and faulty movement patterns whether they are in sport or every day movement. I understand the pressures of work/life balance and design person specific programmes to ensure that an individual maximises the benefits of whatever exercise time they have available to achieve their own personal goals.
