Dancing in the Pool

Please note that this session will not be running this week (Thursday 18th August) and will be replaced with a fun swim with inflatable.

A Huddersfield dance company is teaching children to dance – in the water.

The Stadium Pool is running aqua dance sessions every Thursday morning throughout the summer holidays for children aged eight and older.

Balbir Singh Dance Company, based at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, is taking the watery dance sessions which will draw on contemporary and Indian dance forms. The classes will also incorporate some basic synchronised swimming techniques.

Jaime Nalson, manager of the Stadium Pool, said: “We wanted to have a whole different programme this summer at the Stadium Pool to attract as many youngsters into swimming as possible.

“The aqua dance sessions promise to be a very different way of experiencing the swimming pool, with an emphasis on creativity and fun. But it will also be a very active class which is guaranteed to give all-comers a good workout in the water.”

The sessions, which are not suitable for non-swimmers, will run from 9am until 10am on every Thursday in August, and Thursday 1st September. Children are not accompanied by an adult.

The aqua dance sessions are part of Synchronised, which is an “imove” project commissioned as part of the Cultural Olympiad and bearing the London 2012’s Inspire mark.
