KAL Kickers: new children's football course

GoalGrass roots football doesn’t get more exciting than this!

Kirklees Active Leisure is introducing a brand new football awards scheme called KAL Kickers aimed at boys and girls aged 5 to 12.

The aim of the course is to encourage football crazy kids to learn about the basic skills of the beautiful game. The scheme could even produce the next young stars of the English game.

KAL Kickers sessions will be taking place indoors during term time the week beginning the 6th of September 2010. The centres running this scheme are Batley Sports and Tennis Centre, Dewsbury Sports Centre, Huddersfield Sports Centre, Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre and Colne Valley Leisure Centre.

Damian Ives, football development officer for Kirklees Active Leisure, said: “With England’s poor showing in the World Cup in South Africa, it is clear we need to focus on getting things right with the younger generation so we see the long term benefits.

“It is important that we encourage as many kids into football, by enrolling on with KAL Kickers we can nurture the talent and maybe see young stars of the future.”

The scheme is designed to attract children into the game, whether it is as a bit of fun, to keep active or both.Girls Football

Huddersfield Town Academy Manager, Graham Mitchell added: “The Kirklees Active Leisure Kickers scheme is a great way for young people to keep fit, whilst developing their football skills at the same time.

“I’d really recommend that anyone looking for something to do during the beginning of September should go to their local centre and get involved.”

Children involved in this scheme work their way up eight award levels (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, bronze, silver, gold). Over a 10 week period, kids can learn different skills to help complete a level. The ultimate goal is to reach gold. Each 10 week period will cost £34.

Anyone wanting to tackle KAL Kickers will receive a medal and certificate every time they conquer an award level. Kids can record their progress on achievement wall charts so they can monitor where their strengths and weaknesses are. These achievement wall charts (worth £5) are free to those who sign up before the 31st December 2010.

Expect non stop action in an exciting, friendly and fun atmosphere.
