Are you inactive? Ready, steady, go!

We have launched an exciting project at Batley Baths which aims to target inactive people who are unsure how to get into regular exercise.
Ready, Steady, Go! is a new initiative run by Kirklees Active Leisure with partner Kirklees Council. It is aimed at people for whom regular exercise would improve their health and overall lifestyle.
Fitness manager Kelly Potts said: “We are very excited about Ready, Steady, Go! because we are sure we can reach lots of people and make a difference in their lives.
“Research shows that 44% of the population would do regular exercise if we could actively persuade them. So we are targeting those people and looking at how we can help them get into regular exercising, then supporting them through the process.
“We will show them the basics like how to use the lockers, and let them know what to wear in the gym and classes. Some people don’t want to go alone but with Ready Steady Go everyone is in the same boat and won’t feel alone.”
Anyone who expresses an interest in the scheme is invited to a “welcome session” with other participants. They are given a comprehensive tour of their local site, shown how everything works, and given information on what sessions are available there.
Ready, Steady, Go! participants receive a booklet which includes all the information they need about the activities on offer at local sports centres and pools, other ways of exercising, nutrition and leading a healthy lifestyle. There is space to record a food and exercise diary.
They also receive two guest passes to the centre for themselves and a friend to use to try out some of the activities for free.
Drop-in sessions will be held regularly for participants in case of any questions or difficulties and to keep up their motivation to get fit and healthy. Regular exercise has multiple benefits, including helping you relax, sleep better, give you more energy, reduce stress and it gives you a sense of achievement.
Batley Baths hosts a class on a Wednesday morning 11.30-12.30. Please call us on 01924 326167 for more information.
You have nothing to lose!
