Are you ready for Boot Camp?

KAL is putting on taster “boot camp” sessions to give participants a taste of military-style fitness – which will also help soldiers.

The tough new sessions are tied into a charity marching event running at the same time. A group of KAL and Kirklees Council employees will be taking part in The Long March on Friday 8th April to raise much-needed funds for the Mayor’s Charity Combat Stress, which supports military personnel with mental health problems such as post traumatic stress disorder.

They are marching about 40 miles visiting some of Kirklees’ war memorials in 12 hours.

Those taking part in the free boot camp taster sessions on the same day or over that weekend will be asked to make a donation to Combat Stress which will be added to the total raised during The Long March.

The walkers hope to be passing Colne Valley Leisure Centre during the boot camp held there on April 8th.

Boot camp will not be an easy option – almost all sessions will be held outside whatever the weather and will be reasonably tough, although they can cater for people of all fitness levels.

Fitness manager Kelly Potts said: “Get ready for the boot camp experience!

“Although this won’t be quite as challenging as actual military fitness classes, we hope to get close. They are open to both beginners and people who train regularly, but they are designed to push you on a personal level.

“We would recommend you wear clothes that could potentially get a bit muddy as some classes will be battling the elements too.

“If the boot camps are successful, we will be introducing them into our fitness programmes. Come and have a go if you think you are hard enough.”

Sessions will be:

Friday April 8th

Dewsbury Sports Centre from 1 – 2pm (indoors)

Colne Valley Leisure Centre from 6 – 7pm (outdoors)

Holmfirth Pool from 6 – 7pm (on field)

Saturday April 9th

Batley Baths from 10 – 11am (outdoors)

Sunday April 10th

Spenborough Pool & Fitness Complex 9.30 – 10.30am (outdoors)

Stadium Health & Fitness Complex 10.30 – 11.30am (outdoors)

The sessions are open to members and the public and are free, but we would ask for a donation towards The Long March for Combat Stress. Booking is advisable, ring the relevant reception.
