Course Descriptions

tennis at Batley Tennis CentreMINI TENNIS RED

This is based on a badminton sized court with sponge balls ideal for children starting tennis between the ages of 4 and 8 years.

MINI TENNIS ORANGE

This is on a reduced court with a low compression ball that bounces at the correct height for smaller children moving on from Red tennis between the ages of 7 and 9 years.

MINI TENNIS GREEN

This is the last step before full tennis, it is played on a full court with a lighter and lower compression ball that flies slower and lower than a full tennis ball and provides the last step for children between 8 and 10 years.

Children can progress faster than the shown age recommendations depending on size, strength and overall tennis ability.

In all age groups and categories; 3 & 4 is the entry level with levels 1 & 2 for more experienced children who are probably competing at some level locally or regionally.

JUNIOR GROUPS AND SQUADS

In addition to the 3-4 and 1-2 standard indicators for the groups, we have also grouped the junior groups and squads according to LTA rating; Div 10 being the starter level at 10 years old, moving up through divisions 9, 8, 7, 6 etc as standard improves and match results gain the points required to move up.

Players may be allowed into groups if their rating is not quite at the required level if they are at a level where moving up is imminent and the coaches feel they are of a standard and the right age profile for the group.lesson

The squad sessions are strictly by invite and require the highest levels of commitment and behaviour when on court, in the centre or competing in individual or team competition at any location. They must also be at the required standard for the player’s age (squads are generally for those deemed to have potential to reach county level plus).

At any point the coaching staff may decide a player is not able to continue in a squad for a number of reasons be they regarding tennis standard or commitment and effort levels. Squad players are expected to compete regularly.
