Refurbishment News
Please note the centre will be entirely closed on the weekend 17/18 July. It will reopen on Monday July 19th.
Batley Sports and Tennis Centre is currently undergoing a major refurbishment. As a result of this work a number of facilities are currently closed as we work to improve the facility for you.
Please keep an eye on this page for the latest news and details of programme changes as a result of the work.
What's Going On?
Major work to refurbish Batley Sports and Tennis Centre in a £5.5 million project began last September. The swimming pools and main fitness suite closed as part of phase two of the exciting Batley Swimming Initiative.
The sports hall reopened in October with a new floor.

A brand new fitness suite opened in January. The space was remodelled and filled with new Technogym equipment (see pic left).
During the current phase, the reception has been redesigned and remodelled, and both the swimming and the dryside changing rooms are being totally refurbished.
The pool hall will benefit from an upgrade of poolside facilities including interactive water features for children to play on involving water cannons, slide and tipping buckets, which will be enhanced by new poolside lighting.

Centre manager Anthony Meadowcroft, said: “We would ask our customers to bear with us while the work is ongoing but are sure it will be well worth the wait.
“We would like to remind customers that the centre is still partially operational and to contact the centre for our programme of activities.”
The pool hall is due to reopen on Monday July 19th and the reception area is now already open.
Until the pool reopens, swimmers and members are reminded that they can use nearby pools and fitness suites at Batley Baths, Spenborough Pool and Dewsbury Sports Centre.
Investment for the project has come from a £2.3m grant from the Government, a £2.75 contribution from Kirklees Council and £140,000 from Kirklees Active Leisure.
The Batley Swimming Initiative will build on the already substantial investment of £11.1 million invested by the council and Kirklees Active Leisure over the last seven years into improving and modernising sports centres and swimming pools across Kirklees.
