Kirklees Active Leisure has been working hard to reduce the carbon foot print of our centre's to help reduce global warming and help the environment to become more ‘carbon fit’.
We have been striving to become more efficient in the ways we use gas and electricity at our centres by installing more efficient equipment, better insulation and better control of the environmental condition. All this reduces the amount of green house gases we are responsible for which in turn helps reduce global warming.
In the last twelve months our target for reducing green house gases was 10%. We managed to beat this target and achieved a staggering 12.5%, going from 6,238 tonnes of green house gases to 5,458 tonnes of green house gases. Although we have already achieved a great deal we are still aiming to reach a further 5% reduction this year.
The water quality of our pools is very important to us and something which we will not compromise on, however we have strived to reduce our water consumption by cutting down on losses from our systems. Just by paying attention to the losses last year we reduced the water consumption by 40% and this coming year we are aiming to reduce the losses by a further 10%. Reducing the losses and thus the water consumption also reduces green house gases. Yorkshire water do not have to pump as much water and do not have to treat as much water.
Kirklees Active Leisure is not only looking to improve the fitness of our community but also improve the fitness of our environment.
